Potted plants are not necessarily indoor plants. A potted plant can be put outside as well. Many people have potted plants on their patios or decks for decoration. However, not every potted plant should be treated the same. Before one can pot a plant, they need to determine several things and follow some steps.
•The size of the pot is very important. A potted plant might grow rapidly, and its roots will need room to spread out. One should determine how big they want their potted plant to become, and not how big it already is. This is because a plant will grow into its pot, and it will not be harmed by being in one that is too large. Potted plants will not thrive if they are put into plants that are too small. This will also keep an individual from having to re-pot their plant repeatedly. If the potted plant is set up correctly the first time, one will not have to re-pot it. The size should also depend on the type of potted plant one has. Certain potted plants will grow quicker than others.
•A potted plant should be able to drain properly. This will stop the plant from being damaged by any water buildup. When a plant is in the ground, it drains naturally. A potted plant needs some help. The pot should have a small hole in the bottom of it. This will help it drain. The soil that the plant is put in is very important. Since the soil for the potted plant is purchased and not naturally in place, one has a choice of what kind to get. Plotted plants can thrive off of a soil that is already mixed with fertilizer. The fertilizer should be a time release formula. The soil should be layered on the bottom of the plant, allowing the potted plants roots to be directly in it. The plant should then be transferred to the prepared pot from its original one. This should be done carefully, as the roots on a potted plant can tear.
•One should then fill in soil around the potted plant, packing it in gently to allow for the plant to be surrounded by it. Potted plants should not have any of their leaves covered. Only the bottom half of the potted plant should be covered by soil. The soil around the stem of the potted plant should be packed in tightly to hold it upright and help it absorb water. The soil should be packed loosely as it comes away from the plant, allowing it room to breathe.
Potted plants can be easy to take care of once an individual pots it properly. A plant can die if it is transferred from one pot to another incorrectly. This is why the procedure should be done carefully.
